As part of the agreement, Health Nuts Media animated videos will be offered to Pediatric Web clients on a subscription basis.

Learn360, in Partnership with Health Nuts Media, Recognizes Asthma Awareness Month

Education technology provider collaboration turns focus to building knowledge of environmental triggers, treatment and more for asthma

WOODBURY, N.Y., May 10, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Learn360Awareness, an initiative from Learn360 designed to build awareness of specific topics and link supporting educational content to those topics, in partnership with Health Nuts Media, today announces the launch of its third initiative focusing on asthma.

“Nearly 1 in 10 school-aged children suffer from Asthma, making it the leading cause of absenteeism in the U.S. representing nearly 14 million missed school days annually,” said Chris Sanborn, president of Learn360. “The effects of this disease can be dramatically minimized with easy-to-adopt classroom environmental control practices. Diabetes Education…and Fun?

OK, seriously, how many of you out there ever really thought you could use the terms “diabetes education” and “fun” in the same sentence?

I hear you. Those wiseacres of you out there are saying something like, “Sure. Easy. ‘Diabetes education is anything but fun.’” You know that’s not what I meant. What I meant was how often has diabetes education, or any educational stuff about any health topic, ever really been fun?

You know how it is. Diabetes education almost always involves some dry pamphlet or a long, boring book with way too many facts and far too many ultra-big words. They’re usually far, far too long and most times – come on, admit it – you either fall asleep before you finish the first page or you put it down with the unkept promise to get back to it after the headache it gave you goes away. Pediatric Health Videos Improve Patient Engagement

The Deloitte Center for Health Solutions released results of a study showing doctors aren’t doing very well yet engaging patients via health information technology (HIT). There are lots of ways to do this, but pediatric health videos improve patient engagement in a way that is readily received and easily deployed.

According to an article in Healthcare IT News (Feb. 27, 2012), the new Deloitte report, “Physician Perspectives on Health Information Technology,” says no more than 1 in 5 doctors are providing any significant benefits to their patients via information technology (IT). (more…)

“Understanding Diabetes” Animated Video Series Released

Feb. 22, 2012, Los Angeles — Health Nuts Media announces the completion of Understanding Diabetes, a seven-part animated video series designed to educate children and their parents about diabetes diagnosis and management. This series adds to the growing library of digital health literacy content Health Nuts Media has made available to hospitals and private practice physicians for their pediatric patients.

Watch the videos at: “Understanding Diabetes”

“Our goal at Health Nuts Media is to create much-needed health education that is not only informative, but fun,” says Health Nuts Media CEO, Tim Jones. “We were surprised that there were so few diabetes resources geared toward kids, despite the growing prevalence of diabetes among children.” (more…)

The ABCs of Health

Health Literacy – The Basics

- National Literacy Act of 1991

Health Literacy: “The degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health (more…)

Medicine Meets “Sesame Street”

Sometimes an idea seems just soooo obvious…once somebody’s finally thought of it!

Not like “pet rocks”, which still seems an impossible multi-million-dollar concept. More like sliced bread or the wheel. Both of the latter ideas seem so downright apparent, it’s hard to believe that there was ever a time when people went without. Yet, there was a time when luggage was dragged and uncut loaves ruled.

Today, I’m going to make a prediction: in the not-too-distant future, people will think it bizarre that there was ever a time when health education was not entwined with entertainment.

Think about it. What is more boring than a pamphlet discussing the importance of pulmonary toilet? (Yes, there is such a term.) What is less interesting than a talking head video of some non-charismatic medical muckety-muck making the topic of colon care even less inviting? Health knowledge and healthcare education have long been made just so boring and so bland that most folks tune out before the first sentence hits its period. (more…)
