Sharing Quality: What Kids Find Helpful
Everybody knows that the Internet is just bursting with information. It seems you can find just about anything these days. But, when it comes to health information, there’s a whole bunch of really bad information all jumbled up with the good stuff. It can be really hard to know what to believe and what is just plain, old quackery. (Kids, remember: just because it’s on the Web doesn’t mean it’s true!)
In fact, we had this exact issue brought to us by a group of high school kids who were looking on the Internet for some asthma information for a class project. They came across the old Health Nuts Media web site and, on top of some very kind words for us, had a suggestion that we thought worth both sharing and following. Here’s what they had to say:
First, I want to send my kudos to you regarding your site. A few of the health students I tutor came across [the old Health Nuts Media links page] while doing research for their group presentations. They liked how they could just use your site for information rather than multiple sites at a time. I was also impressed with the information and resources that you provided. Thank you for making those resources available!
Second, I would like to tell you my reason for contacting you. The eight students I tutor are juniors and seniors who were split into two teams by their teacher for this project, the Cougars and the Gators. They are working together on presentations regarding staying healthy and I am helping them develop their research. Since they found your sources so helpful, they asked me if they could give you some of the findings from their own research… I was touched by their strive and dedication to spread the word on being healthy and taking care of themselves. I just had to help them do that, and I hope you will too.
Here are some of the resources that the Cougars and the Gators thought would be a great addition to your health resources:

Tips From the School Nurse: Healthy Bodies for Kids

PEERtrainer: Physical Fitness resources for Kids
University of Buffalo: Health, Fitness & Nutrition Resources

We certainly commend these students and their teacher for their efforts, thank them for their kind reach out, and wanted to share their recommendations. We can’t vouch for the quality of them all, but they do look like some pretty reliable – and helpful – sites.
We want to help kids and families understand, as well as enjoy, learning about health issues. What better way than to share not only our tools, but the tools you’ve found helpful!
You can help others, too. Please send us any links or other resources that you’ve found helpful for your health. We’ll have our PEAP and KEAP review them and add them to the site. Just click here to send.
Thanks for sharing!
